Which Links? - The 10 GbE Changeover

An Illustrated Guide to Making the Move to 10 Gigabit Ethernet
Which Links? - The 10 GbE Changeover

Not surprisingly, some connections require more bandwidth than others. As this illustration from HP shows, near-term 10 GbE links will likely run from core infrastructure to enterprise switches.  At the individual node level, as from individual systems or small-scale access points, there simply isn’t enough data load (yet) to justify the higher-priced connection. Then again, when network adapter pricing for 10 GbE reaches near 1 GbE levels, it will likely prove advantageous to make the future-proofing investment in higher-speed ports, even if 10 GbE cabling waits until later.
