Heck, things would have been substantially different even five years ago. But if there’s one constant on the Internet in general and on the Web in particular it’s got to be change. So be prepared for some unlikely or even unexpected recommendations in this area that relates to building Web sites and some light-duty programming to go with that effort. If you’re really interested in heavy-duty programming, along the lines of Web services or Web-based applications, you should check out my article for Tom’s IT Pro entitled “Top Programming Certifications for IT Pros” (March 14, 2012) instead. On the other hand, if you want to understand how to build and design good Web sites, and create interesting and approachable content for such sites, keep reading. Though you may not expect everything that’ll turn up here, you won’t be disappointed if you dig into the offerings I recommend and follow them up with certain of their “natural consequences,” particularly when the certification sponsor also offers more advanced credentials in the same general track—as nearly all of them do.
