Acer announced new additions to the Veriton N4630G series of mini desktops for US business and education customers. Acer offers the new computer as an alternative to a "fully equipped PC" with the intention of saving space, and power-related costs.

At an estimated retail price of $619, the Veriton N4630G-i54570X features an Intel Core i5-4570T processor with 4MB cache at speeds up to 3.6 GHz. For $549, the Veriton N4630G-i34150X model has an Intel Core i3-4150T processor with 3MB cache at 3.0 GHz. Each model includes 4GB DDR3 SDRAM expandable to 16GB, 500GB 2.5 inch 5400RPM hard drives, two USB 3.0 ports, three USB 2.0 ports, VGA and DisplayPort. A USB mouse and keyboard are included with a choice of Windows Professional 7 or 8.1 Pro installed. The mini-desktops can be attached to the back of a display monitor using a standard VESA mount.

With the bundled software Acer hopes to empower small business owners who lack dedicated IT staff.

According to Acer, these small form factor mini desktops can offer cost savings for organizations over traditional desktop PCs. The assertion is that the mini-desktops have enough computing power to handle most workplace tasks, but can do so at a lower operating cost owing to lower power consumption, which Acer says is comparable to thin clients.

A comparably equipped standard Dell desktop, the Dell 3020, with an Intel Core i3-4130 Processor 3MB cache 3.4 GHz, a 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD can be bought for around $509. The Hewlett-Packard Pro 3500 Desktop with a Core i3-3240 processor at 3.4 GHz with 4GB and a 500GB carries a street price of $498.

Even when compared to Acer's own $499.99 Veriton 2 VM2630G-i3413X, which has the Intel core i3-4130 processor at 3.4 GHz, 4GB RAM, and a 500GB hard disk drive, it appears that buyers will pay a little more up front for the mini-desktop's smaller footprint, while giving up some expansion capabilities and an optical drive. However, according to Acer, the N4630G mini computers target knowledge workers that don't require a fully equipped PC.

The Acer Veriton N4630G mini desktops are available through US value-added resellers and channel partners and come with a three year limited parts and labor warranty. For more information about the N4630 series, be sure to visit the product page on the Acer website.
