Gale Acquisition Helps Dell To Provide Converged Infrastructure By Wolfgang Gruener November 20, 2012 11:50 PM Tags : Cloud Computing Dell Dell recently announced that it has purchased Gale, a provider of infrastructure automation software that can bridge public and private cloud environments. It is new territory for Dell and results in the creation of a new business unit called Enterprise Systems & Solutions. The acquisition positions Dell to better leverage an opportunity in which organizations will move toward a cloud infrastructure that consists of public cloud and on-premises private cloud infrastructures. The company plans to develop new "integrated enterprise solutions" in addition to its current converged infrastructure and active infrastructure product offerings. "Today, enterprises need solutions that enable operational benefits of speed, efficiency, and flexibility in the allocation and use of resources," said Marius Haas, president, Dell Enterprise Solutions Group, in a prepared statement. "Gale Technologies integrates well with our Active Infrastructure family, and provides an intuitive, flexible and comprehensive foundation for application, virtual desktop infrastructure and private cloud deployments for our customers." Within the new Enterprise Systems & Solutions, Dell said it will be focusing on "repeatable enterprise infrastructure models" that can be assembled by Dell or customer architects, as well as the creation of a "single framework to manage complex topologies" consisting of server and storage resources, software images, and network connectivity. Financial details about the acquisition were not revealed. Wolfgang Gruener is a contributor to Tom's IT Pro.
