VMwareVMwareVMware and Dell collaborate on a new converged infrastructure system for VMware’s reinvented VDI solution, VMware Horizon View, a part of the newly released Horizon Suite.

As the 2013 VMware Partner Exchange wrapped up in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dell and VMware announced a new virtual desktop infrastructure system, the DVS Enterprise – Active System 800. Built specifically for VMware Horizon View 5.2, the pre-integrated system is comprised of more than the physical infrastructure; a vital component is Dell’s Active System Manager 7.0, designed for management of the physical and virtual infrastructure and workloads.

VMware Horizon View is the replacement for VMware View, representing one of three components of the VMware Horizon Suite, alongside Horizon Mirage and Horizon Workspace. Horizon Mirage offers layered image management to allow for IT and end-user management of the PCs logical layers. Horizon Workspace allows for allocation of data, applications and desktops streamlining the end user experience. The Horizon Suite was constructed to provide more flexibility and ease of use for end-users and streamlined management for IT professionals as more companies are faced with BYOD scenarios.

DellDellDell’s DVS Enterprise with Active System 800 is capable of supporting up to 4,000 end-users per cluster, which is capped at 50,000 users. The following key components make up the Active System 800:

  • PowerEdge M1000e chassis
  • PowerEdge M620 host servers with flash boot
  • PowerEdge R620 management servers
  • Dell 42u racks
  • IDRAC7 Enterprise for blades

The Dell DVS Enterprise – Active System 800 with VMware Horizon View is now available through Dell PartnerDirect in the US with global availability coming in Summer 2013.
