Veeam Offers Extended Support for vCloud Director By Kasia Lorenc February 26, 2013 9:29 AM Tags : Virtualization Cloud Computing Veeam Veeam announces plans to extend support for VMware vCloud Director by allowing administrators to backup and restore vCD databases, vApps, VMs and other components directly to vCD.As the annual VMware Partner Exchange opened its doors, Veeam announced major improvements to their Backup and Replication for VMware and Hyper-V products. Currently in version 6.5, Veeam Backup and Replication is an out of the box solution that’s built specifically for virtualized environments running VMware vSphere 5.1 and Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V.The current version of Backup and Replication already offers support for vCloud Director, however Veeam plans on enhancing and expanding the current features. The upcoming version 7 will have the ability to capture all vCD metadata during the backup process and administrators will have more flexibility to restore entire vApps or individual VMs, allowing them to be restored to their original vApps, different vApps or back into the virtual infrastructure. Utilizing the same infrastructure and console, Veeam Backup and Replication v7 will allow admins to see their entire vCloud Director infrastructure.VMware’s vCloud Director provides organizations with means to create and manage complete virtual datacenters. vCD sits on top of vSphere, creating a separation between the hardware and the infrastructure services which means administrators can provision services in less time without worrying about the physical configuration. But even vCloud Director needs backup and replication, and that’s where Veeam’s product comes in.The support extensions for vCD in Veeam Backup and Replication version 7 can be expected in the third quarter of 2013.
