Barracuda Launches CudaDrive Secure Cloud File Service

By - Source: Toms IT Pro

Barracuda announced general availability of its CudaDrive cloud file sharing solution after a three-month public beta program.

In the mature but ever-expanding enterprise file sync and share (EFSS) market, CudaDrive enters as a tool targeted at small and medium sized businesses (SMBs). "These organizations are employing a mobile workforce and have an increasing need for anywhere access to their files regardless of device," said Tony Liau, Product Marketing Manager, Barracuda Storage. "CudaDrive's functionality and value proposition fits squarely within Barracuda's core 'data protection' suite of offerings to meet the needs of Barracuda's large incumbent customer base."

There are three areas of unique functionality. The first is that CudaDrive only exposes – or synchronizes – a portion of the file repository to end users, protecting their limited local device storage and limiting corporate information exposure. The second is the availability of an on-premises CudaDrive Site Server. This optional device, which provides caching and network drive mounts, mimics the network shares companies have been long familiar with. This also minimizes performance disruptions due to widespread Internet traffic spikes or localized outages.

Finally, Barracuda has made pricing simple. Instead of dozens or hundreds of options, CudaDrive has minimal configuration options and no end-user client seats.

As Barracuda has been long known for archival, backup and (more recently) electronic signatures, CudaDrive extended this portfolio to encompass a modern area of the file data storage and access market. For smaller organizations that may have overlooked disaster recovery and continuity planning, CudaDrive can be purchased and running within minutes, protecting the file assets most important to companies with actively mobile employees.

To serve a global CudaDrive customer base, Barracuda built and operates eight geographically dispersed data centers around the world. All data is protected at rest and in transit with 256-bit AES encryption.

Pricing starts at $39.99 per month and is licensed by storage capacity, not by user seat. Cost for the optional Site Server (in capacities ranging from 500 GB to 4 TB) is available from Barracuda.

CudaDrive is available immediately through Barracuda's resellers.
