Barracuda Adds Line Of Next-Gen Firewall Appliances For Cloud Reliant Businesses

By - Source: Toms IT Pro

Barracuda revealed four new Barracuda NextGen Firewall desktop appliances aimed at businesses that use cloud services. The four appliances -- the F18, F80, F180 and F280 -- are designed to offer the advanced security and high bandwidth necessary for cloud applications. This announcement also coincides with Barracuda's rebranding of its firewall line, now dubbed "Barracuda NextGen Firewalls."

Traditional gateway security devices are prone to bottlenecks, and the issue is aggravated as more businesses adopt cloud-based applications. Current next-generation solutions filter out unwanted traffic rather than prioritizing wanted traffic. However, Barracuda's new firewalls offer this new prioritization feature, and Barracuda boasted that it is the first company to offer advanced next-generation firewalls for less than $700.

Firewalls are no longer just security measures; they help the performance and stability of a network, but typically, these supporting technologies were reserved for large companies that could afford them. Thus, businesses today are forced to choose between security and performance. Barracuda suggested that its customers no longer have to choose between the two, or shell out a lot of money for both.

The four new Barracuda NextGen Firewall appliances feature improved bandwidth with WAN optimization, intelligent dynamic link balancing and failover, and traffic prioritization for bandwidth management, application usage, and customized network access. The firewalls also feature Intelligent Site-to-Site Connection Management, ensuring reliable connectivity across multiple locations.

Finally, a firewall wouldn't be a firewall if it didn't offer security. The NextGen Firewall offers application control, user awareness, deep SSL traffic inspection, web filtering, IPS, and optional malware and Advanced Threat Detection.

The four new appliances are part of Barracuda's newly rebranded Barracuda NextGen Firewall F-Series, formerly known as Barracuda NG Firewall. Barracuda's F-Series offers centralized management aimed toward highly distributed environments. Barracuda's former Barracuda Firewall series was similarly rebranded to the NextGen Firewall X-Series, which is aimed at SMBs (small-to-medium sized businesses.)
