Big Switch Networks announced new updates to its Big Monitoring Fabric and Big Cloud Fabric.

The latest Big Monitoring Fabric (BMF) is version 5.7. BMF 5.7 is a network packet broker, or NPB, that uses a software defined networking (SDN) architecture. It provides pervasive security and monitoring of network traffic by leveraging bare metal, open source, high-performance switches.

BMF 5.7 is now a Certified Joint Solution with Blue Coat's Encrypted Traffic Management (ETM) Program. This provides a way to combat sophisticated network attacks by addressing malware hiding in SSL traffic. Another new feature is the ability to function as a DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit) service node with features including header stripping and NetFlow support. The platform offers support for 1 Gb, 10 Gb, and 40 Gb and 100 Gb and works on the highest volume network environments. (The 100 Gb support is not a new feature in version 5.7.)

Also, updated is Big Switch Network's Big Cloud Fabric 3.6. The BCF 3.6 update offers deeper integration with VMware, and new support capabilities for OpenStack. New features include an enhanced vCenter plugin that delivers a seamless workflow from profiling to VM instantiation to provisioning to deployment, all in minutes. There is also support for hyper-converged architectures, software-defined storage, and new integration with containers like Docker Swarm and Kubernetes.

Big Monitoring Fabric Starter Kits are listed at $29,000 or $39,000 on the company's website. Kits include the switching hardware, SDN controllers, software and cables, as well as hardware and software maintenance for one to three years. Big Cloud Fabric Kits are listed at $49,000 and $99,000 and come with SDN controllers, Open Networking Switch Hardware, Virtual Switch Software and cables, as well as one to three years of hardware and software maintenance.
