IBM is in the process of developing self-destructing hardware for DARPA, specifically computer chips that will be destroyed by a radio frequency trigger. Part of DARPA's Vanishing Programmable Resources (VAPR) project, the self-destructing hardware will become unusable after certain predefined conditions have been met.
