Citrix Reveals Upcoming NetScaler Control Center

By - Source: Citrix

Last week during VMworld 2013, Cirtrix introduced NetScaler Control Center, an upcoming solution that automates deployment and configuration of NetScaler functionality within networks that will use the new VMware NSX network virtualization platform and other VMware virtualization technologies. So far an actual release date for this new Control Center solution has not been set.

"Leveraging infrastructure used to integrate NetScaler with Citrix CloudPlatform powered by Apache CloudStack, NetScaler Control Center automates the deployment, configuration and management of NetScaler services into virtualized networks, traditional physical networks, or into mixed physical and virtual networking environments," the company said. "Combined with NetScaler SDX, NetScaler Control Center is another key milestone in the Citrix vision to deliver application-defined cloud networks."

By using the new NetScaler Control Center, customers can "spin-up" NetScaler services in their VMware-based cloud environments at the same time they are spinning up virtual servers, virtual storage and the larger virtual network. The solution also allows users to manually configure NetScaler directly from the VMware vCloud GUI. Customers will no longer need to deal with complex network topology and configurations, the company said.

Citrix said last week that NetScaler Control Center provides automated, on-demand configuration of new ADC services as part of an application deployment workflow. The solution also provides simplified provisioning of application specific, advanced ADC functionality through application templates, multi-tenant separation-of-duties and a self-service consumption model while providing cloud administrators a single point of control. The Control Center even enables flexible deployment and management across NetScaler SDX and MPX appliances and NetScaler VPX virtual appliances.

VMware introduced NSX last week, a network virtualization platform that will deliver the entire networking and security model in software, decoupled from networking hardware. The solution is similar to server virtualization, enabling data center operators to treat their physical network as a pool of transport capacity that can be consumed and repurposed on-demand. Virtual networks are programmatically created, provisioned and managed, utilizing the underlying physical network for simple IP connectivity. VMware NSX is expected to launch in Q4 of 2013.

"Comprehensive network virtualization solutions must provide choice for inserting best-in-class application delivery services into cloud-orchestrated data centers," said Hatem Naguib, VP of Cloud Networking and Security at VMware. "Integration of VMware NSX with Citrix NetScaler will give our joint customers the ability to gain advanced application availability, security and optimization functionality that complement existing VMware NSX capabilities."

An actual release date has not been set, but a tech preview is now available for NetScaler customers current on PCS (SA/maintenance) in Q3. The company has also released a solution brief and a short video explaining the new tool here.
