VCE announces the release of two new Vblock systems aimed at mid-market customers, while improving their enterprise level products and introducing a specialized system for SAP HANA.

Last week converged infrastructure vendor, VCE announced the third generation of their Vblock systems with an expansion into small and medium sized environments, as well as improvements in their enterprise class products and a new built-in management system.

Per the kendrickcoleman.com tech blog, Vblock 100 and Vblock 200 are both brand new and intended for small to medium sized data centers.

Vblock 100 comes in two flavors, 24RU 100BX and 42RU 100DX, both preconfigured with Cisco UCS C220 M3 servers and preinstalled with VMware ESXi and vSphere. Featuring Catalyst 3750-X and Cisco Nexus 1000v switches, Vblock 100 supports iSCSI and NFS, utilizing EMC’s VNXe unified storage.

Vblock 200 comes only in a standard 42RU rack, but offers more flexibility in its configuration. On the network level, Vblock 200 features two Nexus 5548UP switches, one Catalyst 3750 switch and Cisco’s Nexus 1000v virtual switch. Utilizing Cisco UCS, VMware vSphere and VNX 5300 storage array, Vblock 200 offers a range of configurations to fit a variety of specific needs.

The big advantage of the 100 and 200 systems is in their deployment time, which VCE claims is 30 days for Vblock 100 and 45 for Vblock 200. The Vblock 300 and Vblock 700 systems have been improved to bring more power and performance to the enterprise as well as more configuration options to customers.

In addition to the 100 and 200 series, VCE also introduced a specialized appliance-based Vblock system for SAP HANA, which has been approved and certified by SAP. Built specifically for SAP HANA, this specialized Vblock is standardized to ensure reliable performance and efficiency while minimizing complexity and maintenance. SAP HANA is a Business Intelligence appliance that focuses on providing real time analytics.

VCE also announced a new management system that is built to simplify the operations of Vblock systems. VCE’s Vision Intelligent Operations software comes preinstalled on all Vblocks and offers an open API for additional systems management integration.

VCE’s cloud infrastructure suite of products focuses on bringing monitoring, automation and orchestration to the datacenter and the latest additions offer improved performance, management and more options for customers to find the right Vblock for their datacenter. Formed just three years ago and funded in part by VMware and Intel, VCE is the brainchild of Cisco and EMC and merges Cisco’s networking technology with EMC’s storage and VMware’s vSphere.
