The Precision R5500 is sold as a 2U rack workstation that enables four concurrent users to take advantage of the integrated Nvidia GPU. The base system, which is offered for $2029, comes with a 256 MB Quadro NVS 295 card, but customers can choose from a dozen different upgrades that top out with two Quadro 6000 cards for $9,190 extra. The 2U unit also includes an Intel Xeon E5603 quad-core processor, 4 GB RAM, as well as one 500 GB HDD. A fully decked out system with dual six-core processors, an Nvidia Tesla accelerator, 192 GB of memory, as well as 5.4 TB SAS storage will cost close to $50,000. The R5500 is certified by Citrix for XenServer 6 and XenDesktop HDX 3D Pro with GPU pass through. Dell said that the system targets customers in engineering, medical, media and entertainment, scientific, software development and economic and finance market segments looking to support additional users on a single workstation.
