AMD FirePro S10000 Server Graphics Card Introduced
AMD FirePro S10000 Server Graphics Card IntroducedAMD has introduced the FirePro S10000 server graphics card, which the company says is the world's first professional graphics card to exceed a double-precision floating-point performance of 1 TFlops.
The new FirePro S10000, which is squarely aimed at Nvidia's Tesla K20 and Intel's upcoming Xeon Phi accelerators, comes with two Tahiti "Graphics Core Next" GPUs that are clocked at 825 MHz, versus the existing FirePro S9000, which has only one (900 MHz) Tahiti GPU. The card sports a total of 3,584 stream processors that can crank out 5.91 Tflops in single-precision and 1.48 Tflops in double-precision floating point performance, if software developers can tap into every bit of horsepower the hardware has to offer.
The dual-slot S10000 also comes with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 5 GHz. The power consumption is 375 watts under full load, compared to 225 watts of the single GPU S9000, which delivers 3.23 Tflops of single-precision and 806 Gflops of double-precision floating point performance. AMD also charges a healthy premium for the S10000: the S9000 is currently sold for $2,499 MSRP, while the S10000 carries a $3,599 sticker.
The system requirements include a PSDU rated at least at 750 watts with two 150W PCIe AUX 8-pin power connectors, 2 GB of system memory, as well as Windows Vista, 7, 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, or Linux (32- or 64-bit). Windows Server 2012 will be supported with a future driver release, AMD said.
