Windows 10 is coming soon, and IT pros can get a training head start with a new -- and free -- course offered by Microsoft Virtual Academy.

The launch of Windows 10 is just around the corner, and the new versions of Microsoft's MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) and MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) desktop OS exams are expected to follow close behind. IT pros looking to get a jump on the new Windows 10 training content sooner rather than later have a great starting point in the form of a free Windows 10 course now available on the Microsoft Virtual Academy website.

Having issues with Windows 10? Tom’s Hardware has a team of community staffers standing by in the forums to answer your questions 24/7. You can also share your own experiences, or jump in and help others.

Getting Started with Windows 10 for IT Professionals is an online course that covers topics such as Windows 10 deployment, OS management and device management under Win10, plus a host of other subjects. As with all MVA offerings, the course is free once you've created a valid Microsoft account.

As a bonus, the "Recommended Resources and Next Steps" section at the end of the course includes a download link for a free ebook copy of Introducing Windows 10 for IT Professionals (Preview Edition) from Microsoft Press. The book can be downloaded in PDF, Mobi, and ePub formats. This is a great bonus add-on to what is already a heck of a good training offering. You can even download the individual videos for offline viewing.

If you haven't had a chance to check out Microsoft Virtual Academy's free online training before, the upcoming release of Windows 10 is a perfect excuse to sign up and give it a spin. Members can create a custom training plan that's suited to their job role or certification interests, and the large and varied selection of courses is growing every month.

The MVA curriculum is organized into three top-level categories: Developers, IT Pros and Data Pros. The IT Pros category drills down into core subjects like Virtualization, Security, Desktop and Device Management, and Server Infrastructure. Of course, subscribers can pick and choose items from any of the disciplines found in the MVA courseware. As an added perk, MVA subscribers qualify for special offers and discounts at the online Microsoft Press store.

The value offered by MVA has helped it to become hugely popular since its debut, with over 3 million registered members to date. It is definitely a site for IT pros to check out. And a great opportunity to get your Windows 10 skills for free.
