HP Intros Mobile App Catalog For BYOD, Issued Devices

By - Source: Hewlett Packard

Last week Hewlett Packard launched an on-demand mobile content catalog called HP Access Catalog. With this solution, organizations can now provide a secure, private "app store" for employees to browse, search and download mobile applications and digital content onto their device of choice.

"As organizations embrace mobility, they need a simple, secure and reliable mechanism to manage the delivery of apps to their employees," said Dragan Milanovich, vice president, Web Services, Software, HP. "The HP Access Catalog provides enterprises with a robust, flexible and easy-to-use solution, making it easier for users to be productive on their device of choice."

HP Access Catalog is a pure software as a service (SaaS) offering that supports Android and iOS platforms. The solution, according to HP, should help organizations reduce the cost and complexity of managing applications on company-issued and BYOD mobile devices.

This new service is hosted in HP's PCI-compliant data center, and uses open-standard technologies such as HTML5 and single-sign-on authentication and authorization capabilities with SAML 2.0 integration. HP Access Catalog provides a user-friendly web interface, allowing end-users to quickly and easily find and download the right applications for their role.

"The catalog allows IT organizations to drive updates to users to ensure they have the most current applications and data, increasing their mobile productivity and effectiveness without compromising security," states the company's press release.

According to HP, the new Access Catalog is also offered as an integrated component of the HP Anywhere enterprise mobility platform, allowing HP Anywhere customers to manage their apps. HP Vertica Marketplace, also powered by the same technology is an online store where customers and developers will find additional downloads to benefit their HP Vertica deployments.
