HP Announces New Mobile Devices For Education, Healthcare, Retail And More

HP announced a series of new mobile devices that support multiple operating systems and are aimed at the needs of a range of businesses including retail, education, healthcare, public safety and more.

"Mobile devices are changing how we live and work, and they also pose significant challenges to IT departments who have to support their now mobile workforces while keeping corporate data managed and secure," said Ron Coughlin, senior vice president and general manager, Personal Systems, HP. "When paired with our ISVs' robust solutions, HP has created an ecosystem that helps companies to powerfully and securely harness the promise of mobility."

The newly-announced HP Pro Slate 8 and 12 are 8-inch and 12-inch HD Android Tablets powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The HP Pro Slate series tablets are only 8mm thin and offer a 4:3 aspect ratio display for viewing business documents and applications. The tablets are among the first to offer Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which promise twice the damage resistance over previously available materials. The included HP Duet Pen, the first to market with the Qualcomm Snapdragon digital pen technology, is part of HP’s Blended Reality Ecosystem by digitizing input from the device screen or from plain paper.

For applications where durability is a priority, HP announced the HP Elite x2 1011 G1 2-in-1 Windows device which transforms from a tablet to a laptop running Windows 8 Pro and conforms to MIL STD 810G standards for resistance to extreme environmental conditions. The new HP Retail Case for ElitePad enables this device to be used as either a mobile or fixed POS solution.

The HP Pro Tablet 408 G1 is an 8-inch tablet running Windows Pro 8 built around an Intel Atom processor with 64 GB of storage, featuring micro-HDMI output and an 8 MP camera with flash.

HP is offering the new HP ElitePad 1000 G2 in the Elitepad 1000 G2 Rugged or in the ElitePad 1000 G2 Healthcare version. Designed for clinical environments, the HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Healthcare Tablet is designed to assist healthcare workers in patient interactions. The tablet features an anti-microbial treatment and can be cleaned easily.

The HP Pro Tablet EE, capable of running either Windows or Android, features IP-52 durability for dust and moisture resistance and is designed to offer a rugged mobile platform for educators. HP Offers a range of educational software solutions usable in conjunction with this device, including HP Services for Schools, HP School Pack and HP Classroom Manager.

The HP Pro Slate 8 and 12, HP Pro Tablet 408 G1, HP Elitepad G2 Healthcare Tablet, HP Retail Case, and HP Pro Slate 10 EE are available now. The HP Elite x2 1011 G1 is expected in late January 2015, and the HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Rugged Tablet is expected in February 2015.
