1. CompTIA Network+ Credential

In this article, the third and last in our  IT Training sub-series on the Top 10 evergreen IT certifications, we detail the Network+, Security +, Password Management Professional and VMware Certified Professional accreditations.

Previously, we examined the Microsoft IT Professional and Technology Specialist accreditations (Part II), as well as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional plus Cisco Certified Internet Expert and Network Associate certifications (Part I). We launched our extensive IT training, education  and certification series with a comprehensive overview of Training Options for IT Pros.

The CompTIA  Network+ Credential

The Network+ credential offered by CompTIA is a must-have certification for IT professionals seeking recognition in the field of networking. Recognized internationally, the Network+ credential is considered a leader among entry-level vendor-neutral networking certifications. Credential holders possess a breadth of knowledge and demonstrate technical skills in basic network infrastructure related tasks, such as installation, configuration, and operation of networks.

In addition, Network+ credential holders also possess the technical skills required to manage and maintain network infrastructures, troubleshoot and solve unforeseen networking events as they occur, and manage devices, tools and security.

Reasonably priced at under $250 USD, this hefty credential is well-worth the effort required to obtain for those interested in network-based IT careers. For the security-minded IT professional, the Network+ credential serves as a preparatory foundation certification for the CompTIA Security+. No training is required prior to sitting for the exam, but CompTIA does offer a full range of training resources–online, self-study, classroom–for those who prefer a more organized approach to preparing for the exam.  Designed for IT professionals with some experience, credential seekers should possess at least nine months real experience working in the areas of network support or administration, or some academic training with a CompTIA A+ certification.

IT professionals seeking a career in networking or security should take a closer look at becoming Network+ certified.
