According to the company, the GFX server with ASX-1 bladesis a system that was developed in collaboration with ARM, Ubuntu Linux developer Canonical as well as chip maker Marvell. The server integrates Marvell's 1.6 GHz Armada XP dual- and quad-core processors based on ARMv7 architecture, which are also used by Dell for its recently unveiled Copper servers shipping on a limited basis to select customers. MiTAC said that the server is targeted especially at cloud environments that depend on low-power consumption and indicated that there is room for expansion as far as performance is concerned. The company said that it will be launching high-performance modules for compute intensive workloads and is also working to bring 64-bit ARM SoCs to market.
