Nexenta, ATTO Technology Team Up On NexentaStor MetroHA

Nexenta partnered with ATTO Technology to add support for MetroHA configurations to Nexenta's flagship NexentaStor product.

NexentaStor is an Open Source-based Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS) platform. NexentaStor delivers unified file and block storage services scalable to petabyte configuration sizes. As an OpenSDS, the system can run on any industry-standard x86 server hardware without vendor lock-in.

NexentaStor MetroHA is a stretch cluster, with the nodes of the cluster separated by up to 30 miles. MetroHA synchronously mirrors data between sites using true ZFS mirroring instead of replication. While both sites are operational, the system provides load balancing and improved performance. In the event of failure at one site, the other site ensures continuous availability as well as quick disaster recovery once the second node is brought back online.

Nexenta MetroHA allows management of the active-active pair from a single location, reducing administrator, configuration and maintenance needs at the actual primary and secondary sites. Administrators can use a web-based user interface, or a command-line interface (CLI) for management.

The MetroHA system is supported by the ATTO FibreBridge 6500 Storage Controller. According to the company, the controller has a failure rate of less than 0.1 percent across more than 25,000 deployments. The NexentaStor MetroHA takes advantage of the system memory of the head notes to both speed performance and ensure data integrity replication in the event of a system failure. It also uses an accelerated engine to maintain priority for data transfers and allows multiple nodes to attach to the same group of storage.

"Our Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage solutions maximize flexibility and choice for our customers. By partnering with ATTO Technology, we continue to expand the set of enterprise applications that can benefit from Nexenta solutions," said Thomas Cornely, Chief Product Officer at Nexenta.

List pricing for NexentaStor for over 1 petabyte levels is $0.18 per GB, including support. Prices decrease with volume.
