OCZ Launches Z-Drive R4 CloudServ 16 TB PCIe SSD for Enterprises By Doug Crowthers February 15, 2012 1:31 PM Tags : Cloud Computing Hardware & Software SSDs Virtualization Cloud Storage OCZ OCZ Technology launches its Z-Drive R4 CloudServ PCIe SSD for Enterprise. With increasing emphasis on cloud computing and the sheer growth in data, PCIe-based flash storage systems have the ability to bypass traditional storage overhead by reducing latencies, increasing throughput, and enabling efficient processing of massive quantities of data. The Z-Drive R4 CloudServ is capable of transferring multiple gigabytes per second and delivering over a million IOPS with a level of concentrated performance that enables system architects to design more productive infrastructures while lowering costs associated with hardware failure, maintenance, structural footprint, and energy consumption. The Z-Drive R4 CloudServ utilizes a SandForce 2581 x16 NAND controller, OCZ SuperScale x 2 Storage Controller, PCIe Gen. 2 x16 interface and Synchronous Mode Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND flash memory. The drive will be available in capacities of 300 GB to 16 TB. OCZ list the drive's performance as having up to 6,000 MB/s read/write bandwidth, random read/write operations (4kB) of 800,000 IOPS and maximum IOPS of 1,400,000 IOPS. The Z-Drive R4 CloudServ comes complete with OCZ's integrated Virtualized Controller Architecture (VCA) 2.0 and SANRAD VXL virtual acceleration caching software. In addition, the drive offers advance security with 128-bit & 256-bit AES encryption support. With VCA 2.0, the drive offers TRIM/SCSI unmap support based on operating system support. It comes backed by a 3-year warranty with dedicated FAE/FSE support. For more information, please visit OCZ's Z-Drive R4 CloudServ product page here.
