SuperMicro Showcases High Performance, High Density Servers At SIGGRAPH 2015

By - Source: SuperMicro

The 42nd annual International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, Siggraph, is underway in Los Angeles this week. The conference includes a commercial exhibition as part of the conference, with vendors from across the industry demonstrating the latest in hardware and software advancements in the areas of virtual reality, computer aided drafting and design, and computer animation.

SuperMicro was present at Siggraph 2015 with an array of new high performance and high density server options well suited for demanding graphic applications.

The SuperServer SYS-1028GQ-TR/-TRT is a high density server that packs four GPUs into a 1U design. Each GPU slot can run an Nvidia Tesla K80 dual-GPU accelerator or Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors. Other hardware specs include support for up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 CPUs running at or below 145 W, up to 1 TB of ECC RAM running at 2133 MHz, two hot-swap SATA drive bays and 2 internal drives.

If density is less important to you than overall processing power, the SuperServer SYS-4028GR-TR boasts eight GPUs in a 4U design. The CPU support in the 4028GR includes Xeon E5-2600 v3 CPUs running up to 160 W of power, and it has 24 DIMM slots for a maximum of 1.5 TB of RAM and 24 hot-swappable SAS2/SATA3 drive bays. This model also supports eight PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots.

The SuperWorkstation 7048GR-TR is a 4U tower workstation with an optional rack-mountable kit. It also supports the highest 160 W E5-2600 v3 Xeon CPUs, and it can run two of them for a maximum of 18 cores of processing power. It supports up to 1 TB of DDR4-2133 MHz RAM, has 10 SATA3 powers and is Thunderbolt compatible.

Both a 3U/6U MicroBlade and a 7U SuperBlade were also on display from SuperMicro. The MicroBlade is currently the SuperMicro performance-oriented solution with the highest density. It supports up to 196 Intel Xeon nodes running up to 5,488 cores per 42U rack.  The SuperBlade comes in a variety of configurations, such as TwinBlade, StorageBlade and DatacenterBlade.

SIGGRAPH 2015 is running through August 13. SuperMicro is in the exhibit hall at booth #550.
