Polycom Gets RealPresence Cloud Support with Meetrix CollaborationPolycom Gets RealPresence Cloud Support with Meetrix Collaboration

Polycom took a step towards bolstering its RealPresence video communication and collaboration platform by announcing a partnership with cloud integration specialist Meetrix to turn RealPresence into a tool to be used with IBM Sametime.

Existing and potential Polycom customers who were considering ways to implement cloud-based social video features with RealPresence won’t have far to look.

Meetrix’s offering is billed as a “SameTime as a service” product that manages the use of IBM’s Sametime--a middleware telepresence, instant messaging, web conferencing and telephony platform--from the cloud.

Though Polycom’s products are already integrated with IBM Sametime, there was no cloud-based option until now. "The Meetrix UC in the Cloud for IBM Sametime service allows customers to deploy IBM Sametime almost instantly, and when you integrate Polycom RealPresence video solutions into the social business environment, customers can keep their upfront costs down," said Steve Pattison, vice president of business development at Polycom, in a prepared statement.

Polycom demonstrated RealPresence with Meetrix’s Sametime cloud support, in addition to various mobile platform versions of RealPresence, at the IBM Connect conference this week in Orlando, Fla. The company launched mobile video content management support for RealPresence and updates to RealPresence’s video-as-a-service options within the last year.
