Teradata has announced the new Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800. Developed in partnership with hardware maker Dot Hill Systems Corp., Teradata has delivered a new single cabinet data analytics appliance that promises twice the compute power and as much as four times more data capacity of the previous version. The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800 helps lower the costs of data analysis by integrating disparate data marts onto a single platform, decreasing query execution times.

"Delivered ready to run, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance is a high performance analytic engine in an extremely efficient and cost-effective footprint," said Hermann Wimmer, co-president, Teradata, and head of Teradata's Data and Analytics Division. "The Appliance enables data-driven organizations to quickly react to changing business conditions."

The new appliance features the high-performance Teradata Database for analytic data warehousing, used by hundreds of customers worldwide. The Teradata Database requires no setup and features the company's parallel-aware optimizer and ultra-fast indexing. The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800 features sophisticated workload management features that efficiently manage allocation of CPU and other hardware resources to deliver optimum data processing power.

The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800 is a highly integrated, purpose-built hardware solution in a single-cabinet form factor designed with Dot Hill featuring the following components:

  • Dual Intel Xeon Processors E5-2697 v3, with 14 cores running at 2.6 GHz
  • Dot Hill Ultra48 AssuredSAN High-Density storage arrays
  • Up to 12 nodes per cabinet with up to 512GB of DDR4 ram per node
  • Data Capacities ranging from 45.8 TB user space using 300GB drives (RAID-1) to 320TB user space using 1200GB Drives (RAID-6)

The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800 can help lower administration costs by freeing DBA and system administration resources. The Teradata database requires no DBA tuning, and the tightly integrated, single cabinet hardware platform of the appliance means simplified hardware setup and maintenance. By standardizing on Teradata as a BI platform, organizations can allow IT staff to more easily support multiple systems. The Teradata Data Warehouse allows customers an easy migration path to the company's Active Enterprise Data Warehouse platform, as needed.
