Preceding updates to its Unified Computing System (UCS) that are expected to be announced on November 8, Cisco unveiled a new management technology for this server range.
In addition to the UCS Manager, Cisco is now also offering UCS Central, which can manage multiple UCS instances and domains in a globally distributed IT environment. According to Cisco, the software provides "simplified, unified management of compute, network, and storage access resources."
The key features include global policies management, creation of a centralized fault summary, centralized inventory and policy-based firmware upgrades, global IT pooling, UCS Manager backups, as well as an XML API to enable a fast integration with existing data center management tools.
The UCS Manager, which controls multiple racks rather than multiple domains, is now offered in parallel to UCS Central. Pricing was not announced.
