By - Source: VMware

VMware announced the availability of its updated Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) portfolio, with advancements to VMware Integrated OpenStack 2, VMware Site Recovery Manager 6.1, VMware Virtual SAN 6.1, VMware vRealize Log Insight 3, VMware vRealize Operations 6.1 and VMware vSphere APIs for IO Filtering.

VMware Integrated OpenStack 2.0 is now based on the current OpenStack (K)ilo release and contains many new features and enhancements. An automatic upgrade feature simplifies the transition from earlier releases of OpenStack. Load Balancing as-a-Service (LBaaS) is available with support for the VMware NSX network virtualization platform. Support for Ceilometer metrics using MongoDB as a backend has been added, and Qcow2 virtual machine image support is now available.

The VMware Site Recovery Manager 6.1 now features integration with VMware NSX that improves SDDC disaster recovery using network virtualization, eliminating the need to reconfigure IP addresses on recovered virtual machines. Zero-downtime application mobility is enabled using automated cross-center vMotion operations. Stretched storage support is available for virtual storage solutions from EMC, Hitachi, and IBM.

Upgrades to VMware Virtual SAN 6.1 include the new Stretched Cluster feature that allows for the synchronous replication of data between geographically separate sites and vRealize Operations support for enhanced management and global visibility across virtual SAN clusters. A new Health Check plugin available from VMware provides network and real-time diagnostics while providing hardware, firmware and driver compatibility checks.

According to VMware, the new vRealize Log insight 3 is capable of processing up to 15,000 messages per second, doubling the capacity of the previous version, while providing new query and data visualization options. Integration between vRealize Log Insight and vRealize Operations 6.1 has been improved. vRealize Operations 6.1 has been enhanced with the new VMware Intelligent Workload Management features that can recommend optimum configuration of workloads across clusters. Native system and application monitoring in version 6.1 uses predictive analytics to help admins anticipate and avoid potential problems.

VMware's new vSphere APIs for IO Filtering have enabled partners to add software-based data services such has intelligent caching and enhanced replication features. Software products based on the new API are available from vendor partners such as EMC, PrimaryIO, Asigra and more.

Evaluation versions of all the VMware SDDC portfolio components are available via the VMware Hands-on Labs Online.
